Al-Shawkani said: “The science of the fundamentals of jurisprudence is the science to which scholars take refuge and to which they resort when deciding issues and establishing evidence in most rulings, and its decided issues and liberalized rules are taken for granted by many of the observers, as we see in the researches of scholars and in the compilations of classifiers. When one of them cites a word from the words of the scholars of the fundamentals in support of what he says, the disputants, even if they are among the scholars, acquiesce to him, because they believe that the issues of this art are based on the truth, which is worthy of acceptance, and are linked to scientific evidence from what is reasonable and what is transmitted. By this means, many of the scholars fell into the opinion and held it up as the greatest banner, while thinking that they did not work without the science of narration. This prompted me, after asking a group of scholars, to compile this compilation in this honorable science. with the intention of clarifying what is more likely than what is less likely, and what is less likely than what is true, explaining what is valid to refer to, and what is not valid to rely on, so that the scholar may be aware of his knowledge, through which the correctness will become clear to him, and the veil will not remain between him and the realization of the true truth, which is accepted by him.“.
