The topics of this book, which are the result of the effort and experience of teaching this form of study for about seventeen years, have been prepared to serve as a basis for studying the descriptive, analytical and applied aspects of statistics in social studies so that they can give the novice researcher in the field of social sciences in general, and in the field of sociology in particular, an organized knowledge of quantitative methods and statistical methods used in collecting and analyzing data on social phenomena in order to reach the most useful scientific results possible.

Description

Book description:

  • Author's name: Fathi Abdulaziz Abu Radi

  • Number of pages: 482 pages

  • The subject of the book: Statistical Methods in the Social Sciences

The contents of the book:

The framework of this book consists of thirteen chapters, beginning with a focused introduction to statistical concepts. The second chapter examines the methods of data collection and preparation for statistical analysis, as well as a discussion of the basic principles of sample size determination methods. The second chapter deals with the study of data collection methods and their preparation for statistical analysis, and a discussion of the basic principles of common sample size determination methods with linking these principles to the social reality, while the third chapter deals with the study of graphical and tabular presentation methods as a basic premise for statistical description and analysis.

The fourth and fifth chapters deal with the most important statistical methods that the researcher needs in the statistical description of the data of social phenomena, namely measures of central tendency and their types, how to apply them and the differences in the results obtained from each of them, measures of dispersion and difference, their characteristics, how to use them, and their multiple fields of application, in addition to studying the indicators of concentration in the data.

Chapter 6 explains the properties of the (normal) distribution, which is a basic necessity for statistical inference and data comparison methods, while Chapter 7 deals with methods of estimating and inferring the characteristics of) The seventh chapter deals with methods of estimating and inferring the characteristics of the parameters of the population from the data collected by the sampling method due to the number of study and examination of all the members of the population, which may be very large.

The eighth chapter explains statistical hypothesis tests, their rules and how to choose them, which is what data comparison methods depend on. The ninth and tenth chapters deal with data processing and comparison methods in an applied practical form based on parametric and nonparametric methods that are used in this regard, respectively.

Chapter 11 is concerned with analyzing the correlation between social phenomena to clarify the type and degree of relationship or amount of interdependence between them, while Chapter 12 deals with the study and analysis of regression to show the extent of the overall correlation between the variables of social phenomena, and to predict or

to predict) the behavior of one variable as it is affected by other variables.

The book concludes with the thirteenth chapter on population statistics in terms of methods of collection, vital statistics, and the most important demographic measures used to calculate them, which govern the process of population distribution, structure, and change.

In order to complete the scientific benefit of the book's topics, the author was keen to provide it with many examples and applications of social and geographical data to illustrate the use and application of statistical analysis tools and methods and interpret their results, in addition to many graphs so that the facts contained in the body of the topics can be followed up, and the author did not fail to attach a set of statistical tables to be used in the statistical calibration process.
