About the Author
Abdul Rahman Hamida is a university professor and geographer born in the Syrian city of Aleppo. He is the author of many books in the science of geography, such as “Flags of Arab geographers and excerpts from their monuments”, and he has also localized several books, including: “The Golan, a study in regional geography” by Dr. Adib Bagh.
He earned his doctorate in geography from the French University of the Syrians in Paris, and worked as a professor of geography at the universities of Damascus and Aleppo in Syria, the University of Benghazi in Libya, and Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He headed the Department of Geography at Damascus University for several years and was a member of the Arab Writers Union, the Syrian Studies and Research Society, and the Syrian Geographical Society.
He participated in many conferences and seminars inside and outside Syria, and wrote many articles in Arab geographical and general journals.
He married in Aleppo and had a son and three daughters. He died on May 6, 2010 and was buried in Orange County, Southern California, USA, where he lived near his daughter after retirement.
