Abdullah ibn Umar is the seventh book in Dr. Rashad Dargoth's series of Companions' exploits. The book deals with the life of Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab, a Muhaddith and jurist, who is one of the youngest Companions, the son of the second Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab, and one of the most prolific narrators of the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

About the author:

He is Rashad bin Kamal Darghout al-Maghraby, born in Beirut, where he died.

He belongs to an ancient Tripolitanian family from which many prominent jurists, judges, and scholars have emerged, including Sheikh Kamal Dargoth al-Maghraby, Mufti of Sidon (Rashad's father), Sheikh Abdulmajid al-Maghraby, Secretary of the Tripoli Fatwa, and Sheikh Abdul Qader al-Maghraby, Vice President of the Linguistic Society in Damascus.

He completed his high school studies at the Oriental College in Zahle, then moved to the Higher Teachers' House, where he earned his diploma and a degree in education in 1928, and then moved to the Law School (1932), and then Literature in 1933.

He was fluent in Arabic and French, and knew several other languages.

He worked as a teacher at the Lebanese Teachers' House until 1941. He served as assistant head of the Ministry of National Education and Arts (1939), and then as chief of staff at the General Control of the newly created administrative departments.

He was appointed by Bechara al-Khoury, then president of the Republic, as his chief of staff, then attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates as assistant secretary general for political affairs (1945), then director of administrative, financial and foreigners' control departments, and in 1952 he was reinstated to his position at the Presidency of the Republic.

He was a member of a number of literary societies including: Ahl al-Qalam Society, Brotherhood of Culture, and Friends of Writers, in addition to his membership in the Foundation for Studies and Research.

He has a diwan entitled “My Poetry” - Dar Al-Kutub - Beirut 1963, and the Lebanese magazine Al-Adeeb published many poems for him, including: “Love” - Volume 15 - (C3) - 1956, “The Void” - Volume 15 - (C12) - 1956, ”Thirst” - Volume 16 - (C6) - 1957, ”I am alone” - Volume 17 - (C5) - 1958, ”I lost my way” - (C2) - 1960, and ”Haneen” - (C5) - 1962.

His poetry revolves around his subjective and emotional experiences, a lover of his homeland, Lebanon, and its land, glorifying the footsteps of the revolutionaries of his Arab nation who defend its dignity and fight for its freedom and salvation, and has poetry describing the nature in Lebanon. He suffers from boredom and a sense of alienation that calls for a compulsive tendency in him, as this universe is a set of opposites of doubt and certainty that do not fulfill the requirements of his desired tranquility, he feels forgotten and abandoned.

He tends to complain and reflect on the course of this universe, and concludes that man, in his opinion, is the creator of evil in this universe, which God Almighty handed over to him intact

His language is characterized by flow and ease, and his imagination is characterized by novelty and wit.

He received a number of honors and awards including: The Friends of the Book Award - 1963, the Cedar Medal with the rank of officer, and the Lebanese Order of Merit.
