Description

لWard, a young woman who left her home country with her brother on a business trip, did not know that she would meet the love of her life by chance.

The fighter pilot who flew over hostile skies on a mission of honor for his country did not know that he would meet the love of his life by chance.

And because the most beautiful kind of love is the one that comes by chance. The meeting happened. Then there was a parting. And then the meeting returned. This is the emotional distance drawn by the novel «A Rose Loved Me,» by Manal Al-Otaibi, who presented us with a symbolic example of love in its highest state of existence, and she worked to show it in a stylistic circle that refuses to be faithful to the socially desirable relationship model between male and female that does not go beyond the circle of the forbidden in Arab culture.

In this novel, the feminist discourse exercises its power within the text when author Manal Al-Otaibi allows the female and male characters to freely express their feelings towards each other: “When I met you, I felt that life smiled at me twice! Once when I was born and the other time when I met you,” while Ayham's letters are imbued with the laws of love and represent the emotional state of the lover who is promised to connect: “It is a moment that is bigger than the age of surprise. It is heavier than the shoulder of the meeting. Arrange me to absorb you... I go back to being lost and stunned by you. I love you. I love you. I love you. You are the best one for whom my heart clapped to herald his arrival.” In this sense, the discourse of women and men in this novel complement each other and are in a state of harmony and harmony, as the characters of the text are always in a state of dialog, debate, and constructive criticism that pulls the reader until the end; the presence of poetry as messages rather than narratives also plays a role in breaking the traditional narrative pact, with a new formula from another literary genre that came as a tool for storytelling communication at the level of structure. This work contributed to establishing narrative and narrative links within the narrative text between two literary genres (fiction and poetry), despite the difference between these two genres, but here, in this work, poetry and fiction have become one literary text, in addition to other techniques used in the presentation of the tale.

Under the title “A Rose Loved Me”, novelist Manal Al-Otaibi wrote: “They have become like empty letters carried by the breeze and unable to reveal their content, knowing full well that their owner did not send them in vain, but cut out a part of his soul to give them to those in the other world.

That distant world. Distant and far away.”.
