Description
Does man need art to make his life more noble and beautiful? Does man need art to vent his sorrows, emotions, and emotional, psychological, and intellectual repressions? Does man need art to use it to establish relationships with others and enrich his intellect? The author Maha Abdullah Al-Barikan answers these and other questions in her book «Art Therapy as an Entrance to Mental Health» and does so by drawing on modern art schools and psychoanalytic theories in an attempt to emphasize that art therapy is the most important entrance to mental health. In a world full of conflicts and various organic and psychological diseases, it was necessary to search for solutions and treatments that reduce the rate of tensions and psychological crises and achieve personal, social and professional compatibility. Hence, the author finds that “... art therapy is a helpful way to discharge the charge of tensions or repression that changes a lot in the personality, because artistic expression sometimes represents the page on which the individual can reflect the colors of his conflicts, repressions, what he failed to achieve, and the pain he suffers for several reasons; such as the pressure of society on him or overlooking him and not recognizing him and his needs. The therapeutic function of art is one of the five facets of art's connection to life in Laloux's view, the others being the technical, perfectionist, idealistic and recording functions... Through my research, I try to give people a clear path to happiness by using artistic expression as a cathartic means.“
