About the author:
He is Hamdi Sayed Ahmed Al-Sakkout, an Egyptian thinker and writer, who obtained a bachelor's degree in Arabic language and literature from the Faculty of Dar Al-Salam at Cairo University in 1374 AH corresponding to 1955 AD, and he also obtained a diploma of education from Ain Shams University in Cairo in 1375 AH corresponding to 1956 AD, and he obtained his Ph.D. degree from Cambridge University in England in 1385 AH corresponding to 1965 AD, in addition to being the director of the research unit D. from Cambridge University in England in 1385 A.H., corresponding to 1965 A.D. He graduated in several academic positions until he became a professor of modern Arabic literature, in addition to being the director of the Scientific Research Unit and the Center for Arabic Studies at the American University in Cairo.
He was awarded the King Faisal International Prize in Arabic Language and Literature in 1415 AH (1995), jointly with Salma Al-Haffar Al-Kazbari and Muhammad Abu Al-Anwar, and in 1423 AH (2002) he received the Tuma Prize for African Writers, the Modern Languages Foundation Award in the United States, and the Al-Ahram Club Award.
